My “Almost Big Break” PT. 1

You Think You Know, But You Have No Idea

My “Almost Big Break” PT. 1

What do you want to be when you grow up? That is the $64,000 question that many of us are asked from childhood well into our years as young adults and often the answers change as reality slowly slaps us in the face. The more debt we accrue from student loans and unnecessary credit card bills (if you were bamboozled into getting one) sometimes makes me think that pursuing my dream is just too costly and I can’t afford the risk. But the truth is pursuing what you love with fierceness will always be worth the risk.

On August 29, 2012 the University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosted auditions for the 11th Annual BET Black College Tour which comes to our campus on September 12, 2012. They are looking for talent and a host! (which is where I come in) I used to dream of hosting my own talk show when I was younger and as a senior, I’m closer than ever to making it happen.  I decided I would take a chance and audition. As I confidently walk to the Student Services Center Ballroom, I couldn’t be more ready!  I felt like, this is it! I literally almost felt like I made it! As I walk closer to the door I notice that the auditions has moved rooms. I’m thinking ok, great!

I proceed to the next room upstairs and I send out mass texts asking for prayer! After all, this is like my absolute dream. Well, the precursor to my dream but still a very important part in achieving it. I sit in a room with other hopefuls and wait to hear the news about whether I am able to audition and BOOM! A young lady notifies me that I have to wait until tomorrow to audition….

Have you ever felt really close to pursuing your dream and then because of uncontrollable circumstance you had to put your plans on hold?

Tell us about it!

To be continued...
